Founded in 1921, and set in a beautiful, safe and idyllic island setting just off the South Coast of England, Ryde School with Upper Chine (known locally as Ryde School) is a thriving, prosperous independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18, providing exceptional educational opportunities in a nurturing environment.

10 minutes by Hovercraft from the mainland and 90 minutes from London, the School and both Junior and Senior boarding houses, benefit from being near high-speed sea, rail and air links to regional, European and international destinations and the school is minutes from Cowes, the home of international sailing. The Isle of Wight is a remarkable place in which to grow and learn, it offers security and beauty that few schools can rival.

Ryde has an excellent record of academic achievement throughout all age groups and is the first independent school in the UK to offer the IB Career-related Programme alongside the IB Diploma Programme and our newly linear 2 year A Level Plus programme, through which pupils study A Levels but also take advantage of the IB courses on offer as enrichment options. We also offer a one-year Pre Sixth Form course providing excellent preparation for entry into the Sixth Form with GCSE qualifications within one year.

Year after year pupils leave to go on to study at Oxford and Cambridge, other Russell Group Universities and Art, Music and Drama colleges. Pupils succeed academically and are well-mannered, characterful, happy and independent; a result of Ryde School’s dynamic yet welcoming environment. The aims of Ryde School as embedded in the school crest, 'Ut Prosim', have always been focused on service to others, and our pupils are encouraged towards self-knowledge, good governance, academic excellence and leadership in order to contribute positively within their chosen fields.

Our most recent ISI report praised many outstanding features in our high quality provision. In addition to the extensive academic programme, the school provides an exciting and adventurous array of activities (both after school and at weekends).

The school welcomes a small number of overseas pupils to its boarding community. We pride ourselves on excellent pastoral care. The boarding houses are welcoming, warm and comfortable, with the emphasis on family values and well-ordered supervision as well as a wealth of extra curricular activities available.
